Local 577 leaders, Kristi Cohen, Debra Petersen and Rep. & 556 member, Kevin Barber attended TWU International’s Workers’ Rights Are Human Rights Nevada Summit on Tuesday, August 30.
The summit featured, TWU Sr. VP of Strategic Planning, Roger Toussaint and TWU Senior Counsel, K. Dean Hubbard, Jr. whose message was to educate TWU Locals nationwide about the ongoing attack on labor. The meeting offered a place where Local leaders and activists could come together to help plan and implement TWU’s response to the attacks.
In attendance were members of Las Vegas Dealers Local 721, American Airlines Local 564, Southwest Airlines 556 and our own representatives of Local 577.
“We are so happy to be a part of this important work.” said Kristi Cohen. “This is a chance to support our fellow union brothers and sisters nationwide, give back to our International, and a fabulous opportunity to introduce our Local 577 to the Las Vegas Labor community.”
As we develop our union, it is important to develop and cultivate relationships within TWU and forge a solid presence in our own backyard. By becoming active in our community and supporting our union brothers and sisters - they do so in kind.
Debra Petersen went on to say, “Especially in today's environment. We as Local 577 members can see by virtue of our own fight how important unity is, and we will continue to represent and fight for our workforce to ensure we achieve the living and working conditions we deserve, and a contract we have earned.”
These are historic times. We must act as such.
